Review: When the last story is told

Review of When the last story is told by Fredrik Strömberg at Goodreads. Here’s an excerpt:

My favourites are the ones where Haverholm seems to have used ink that he has splattered and smeared around. Reading/looking at abstract comics is always a bit like a roschach test, whatever you get out of it you probably put there yourself, and these starts my imagination, making me connect dots that are most likely not there in the first place.

CBA now available at the internet bookstores!

For a long time, many issues of CBA have been missing from the Swedish internet bookstores, but now they have been made available as it should be (including Allan Haverholm’s When the last story is told, Mattias Elftorp’s Piracy is Liberation, etc)!

covers_vol01-28

Have a look among our titles at AdLibris or Bokus, for example!
They’re not showing the exact same titles because of search engine issues, but look araound and you should find the issues you’re missing. You can also see the complete list here and use the ISBN to find individual titles in the bookstores.

Contact shop@cestbonkultur.com if you prefer to buy directly from us or if you for some reason can’t use the Swedich internet bookstores or if there’s something you still can’t find there…

Submissions for CBA vol 32

cbavol32submissions-eventWe are now open for submissions to the first anthology issue with the new editorial crew of CBA.

This will be CBA vol 32, the first issue of 2016 which marks the ten year anniversary of this incarnation of the antholoy. You will join the ranks of such great artists as Anke Feuchtenberger, Danijel Zezelj, David Mack, Ho Che Anderson, Rutu Modan and many more (see the complete list of creators who have participated in the past)!

What we are looking for is comics which rely on artistic ambitions and a will to experiment rather than what has been done a thousand times before. We want to expand the boundaries of what is possible to achieve in the comics medium.

The theme for this issue is BLUE BEGINNINGS which is a suggested theme, not obligatory. We don’t want you to feel constricted by this, but if you need the extra inspiration, use this theme however you want and make your own interpretation of the words.

Specifications:
Anything is welcome, but we prefer comics that are about 5-30 pages.
Format: 20x26cm
Color: Yes
Language: English
Format: .TIF
Resolution: 1200 dpi line art or 300 dpi grayscale/CMYK
Bleed: 5mm in all directions.
Within this space, there are no limits.

Please send us your FINISHED COMIC in high-resolution files from the start.
And also include a short presentation text about yourself, with URL (if you have a website).

Please ask us if you are unsure about formats, resolution, bleed, etc. We prefer stupid questions to bad files. And there are no stupid questions.

Send comics, questions, etc to:
submissions@cestbonkultur.com

Unfortunately we cannot offer you any payment for participating. If we publish your submission you will receive 10 free copies of the issue. That’s all we can offer at this date. Hopefully you will find being in CBA an enjoyable experience. Naturally, copyright for your material will stay in your hands and we do accept stories which have been published elsewhere before.

DEADLINE: October 31

SIGNS AND SCIENCE

C’est Bon Kultur presents:
SIGNS AND SCIENCE
Release party for C’est Bon Anthology vol 28 & exhibition: “Space”.

When? Thursday, April 23 2015
Where? Tusen Serier at Mitt Möllan, Claesgatan 8, Malmö
Who? Frøydis Sollid Simonsen, Karoline Stjernfelt, Mari Ahokoivu
+ artists from CBA vol 28

Frøydis Sollid Simonsen, Karoline Stjernfelt and Mari Ahokoivu have made the exhibition Space which has been shown in Norway can soon be seen in Finland. Now it comes to Malmö in conjunction with the release of the new issue of C’est Bon Anthology, which has the theme Signs and science and contains some of the comics from the exhibition. To celebrate this coincidence, we have added some of the other comics to this edition of the exhibition and turned the whole thing into a combined release party and exhibition.

Signs of science? The science of signs? Or neither, or both. How about the sleep depriving thought of eternity when you turn off the lights at night. Of the ever reaching deepness of space, black holes and the creation of photons in the core of the sun. How about when you get lost in thought, staring at your thumb, thinking about how the cells in your skin work and work and work, divide and fall off. The molecules they are made of. The vanishing weight of the atoms.

CBA vol 28 is also the last anthology issue from the former editorial crew. Since every other issue is a special graphic novel issue, vol 30 (September) will be the first issue from the (almost) completely new crew. In other words, this is the end of an era and at the same time the seed for what is to come, since it’s already the new crew organizing this event.

Sequential Investigations

Vernissage 12 juni 2014 kl. 16-21
Finissage 5 juli kl. 15-19

Medverkande:

Dunja Jankovic, Sophie Yanow, Aidan Koch, Warren Craghead, Derik A. Badman, Alyssa Berg, Julie Delporte, Simon Moreton & Oliver East

Sånger om Björnar

2013 October

C’est Bon Kultur are proud to present a new exhibition, “Sånger om björnar” (“Songs of Bears”) at Biograf Spegeln!

Bears appear frequently and in many forms throughout history and are embedded symbolically in many narratives, from the Russian Bear to Winnie-the-Pooh and Smokey. In this exhibition, comics artists explore the world of the members of the family Ursidae. Delving deep into the mind of the animal, revealing playfulness as well as ferociousness.

“While we watch the animals in their joys of being, in their grace and ferociousness, a thought becomes more and more clear. That it is not so much a look at wild nature, as it is an insight into ourselves, our nature.”

Werner Herzog, Grizzly Man (2005)

IN BETWEEN

2012 November 7 – January 6
Part of AltCom 2012
Spegeln (Stortorget 29)
Opening Nov 7, 19-22

C’est Bon Kultur Presents: IN BETWEEN
(On November 7 of 2012, the intervals are revealed)

The comics collective C’est Bon Kultur take out the scalpel, cut along the lines of the thin sheets of reality, stepping into the borderlands between the panels. We try to exist between all the fabricated lines, created on paper by human hand. Precisely because they are created, designed, drawn in the sand, it is possible to look at them, to scrutinize their being, their silent division of the world. Surely there are stories there, in between other stories?

Seven artists take part in this exhibition:
One story, seven artists, six in betweens, seven stories.

C’EST BON KULTUR

Since 2001, C’est Bon Kultur has worked for a more varied and exciting comics culture in Sweden and on the international scene. The formal purpose of the organisation is to support, evolve and disseminate comics with higher artistic ambitions. The main vehicle for this purpose is the international comics art magazine, C’est Bon Anthology. We also arrange exhibitions of comics art, lectures and other cultural events.
The vision is to push the boundaries of what can be done in comics, to broaden the perspective of what the comics medium is and can be, both in relation to itself and to other art forms.

10 years of C’est Bon

We had a spot in the program at Seriefrämjandet’s Seriescenen at the Gothenburg Book Fair in 2011:
