We <3 XM24

We’re back from CRACK! and in the last few weeks we’ve also been to the Tenderete festival in Valencia.

But never mind that now.

Another sister festival to CRACK!, Tenderete (and also AltCom), has been taking place at a squat in Bologna, XM24, which is now being evicted.

We’ve never been there ourselves, but it doesn’t matter. They’re part of the family and we support them in fighting this eviction.

AltCom is coming!

As you may know, we are organizing the AltCom 2016: WORK comics festival together with Tusen Serier on July 28-31 in Malmö.

You can find the program for the festival here.

One of our contributions will be the release/exhibition for the new CBA vol 34: Re: Creation & Idleness. @ Mitt Möllan, July 28-29, 17-23.

You can pre-order the book here.

It’s time to put on your leisure suit and get to work on whatever. Whatever you want. Whatever. Is it working? No! It’s not working at all. Maybe it’s a sci-fi utopia. Or is it a fantasy? It’s all the time in the world. Odd moments are even. Time is money and everyone’s a billionaire. Spare some time? Here: free time for everyone! High quality time! No work and all play.

Participating artists:
Alexander Robyn | Steve Nyberg | Jasmina Grudnik | Harukichi | Javier Triviño Murillo | Anna Krztoń | Petra Lilla Marjai | Aurélien Leif | Štěpánka Jislová | Mattias Elftorp

CBK organized the first AltCom back in 2004 as a one-time event, then it was turned into a full-scale comics festival and run by the Swedish Comics Association in 2010, 2012 and 2014. And now it’s back with us and Tusen Serier.

There will be exhibitions, films and a comics fair. During all of the festival, we will also give out the AltCom 2016: WORK anthology for free.

The book features an assortment of international artists, many of whom have been published in CBA over the years. Cover illustration by Kinga Dukaj.

Read more about it here.

And of course we will have a table and sell our books at the comics market on July 30-31 in Folkets Park.

On another note, CBA vol 35: BLEED has its submissions deadline on August 1, so if you have an amazing comic with lots of blood lying around, don’t hesitate to send it to us (see our submission guidelines for instructions).

SIS16!

The weekend is coming towards us like some kind of train. We will have a table at SIS16 (May 7-8 at Kulturhuset in Stockholm). As usual, we’ll be with Tusen Serier & Wormgod + Anna Ehrlemark (one of the artists of the brand new CBA vol 32).

You will find us in the same place as last year (F8-F10). We also take part in the programming, with a talk about Hybriden & AltCom on Saturday at 13.
See the entire program here

We will of course bring our latest issue and an assortment of back issues that we will sell with some generous special offers (look us up to find out more)!

And speaking of festival, now there’s a Facebook event (and poster) for AltCom!

AltCom 2016: WORK anthology – call for submissions!

Reposted from the AltCom website:

Time to announce the festival anthology of 2016:

We don’t have all the funding secured yet, but there’s a Kickstarter, so let’s assume that everything will be fine and open this call for submissions anyway!

The theme for this year is WORK, and we would like you to give us your stories interpreting that theme.

WHAT we want:
Pages: 1-5, black/white
Language: English
Format: 140x182mm (a little bit smaller than A5) +5mm bleed on all sides
Files: High-resolution .TIFF, preferably
If you are unsure what we mean by “high-resolution”, please ask. Not sure what we mean by “bleed”? Read this! Lots of artists don’t know, and it’s better to ask than to send us files that we can’t use.Introduction to the theme.

WHEN we want it:
Deadline: May 15

Send questions and submissions to: submissions [at] altcomfestival [dot] se

Please feel free to invite more comics artists to the Facebook event.

WHO we are:
The AltCom 2016 anthology will be edited by the Hybrid of CBK & Tusen Serier.

As usual, no one gets paid for participating. But on the other hand, no one pays for it either since we’ll be giving the book away for free during and after the festival!

And yes, we do accept comics that have already been published elsewhere, as long as we like them and they fit into the theme.

AltCom 2016

It is now confirmed that we will be organizing the AltCom festival in 2016, in cooperation with Tusen Serier.

We organized the first version of AltCom in 2004, then the Swedish Comics Association took over and turned it into a real, bi-annual festival starting in 2010.

We will soon update the AltCom website with information about the earlier festivals and what is to come for 2016…

IN BETWEEN

2012 November 7 – January 6
Part of AltCom 2012
Spegeln (Stortorget 29)
Opening Nov 7, 19-22

C’est Bon Kultur Presents: IN BETWEEN
(On November 7 of 2012, the intervals are revealed)

The comics collective C’est Bon Kultur take out the scalpel, cut along the lines of the thin sheets of reality, stepping into the borderlands between the panels. We try to exist between all the fabricated lines, created on paper by human hand. Precisely because they are created, designed, drawn in the sand, it is possible to look at them, to scrutinize their being, their silent division of the world. Surely there are stories there, in between other stories?

Seven artists take part in this exhibition:
One story, seven artists, six in betweens, seven stories.

C’EST BON KULTUR

Since 2001, C’est Bon Kultur has worked for a more varied and exciting comics culture in Sweden and on the international scene. The formal purpose of the organisation is to support, evolve and disseminate comics with higher artistic ambitions. The main vehicle for this purpose is the international comics art magazine, C’est Bon Anthology. We also arrange exhibitions of comics art, lectures and other cultural events.
The vision is to push the boundaries of what can be done in comics, to broaden the perspective of what the comics medium is and can be, both in relation to itself and to other art forms.

C’est Bon Panorama III: Super Mario

2010 November, part of AltCom 2010

C’est Bon Panorama III
Interpretations of the colorful world of the hero plumber
Exhibition November 12 – January 16 @ Biograf/galleri Spegeln
Opening: November 12 at 17:00
[Sofia Falkenhem, Martin Flink, Allan Haverholm, Cin Iwarsson, Sarah Kläpp, Jamil Mani & Elisabeth Nielsen]

Super Mario is the pixeled hero with the big moustache, eating mushrooms, travelling through pipes and throwing turtle shells. Mario started his carreer as part of the supporting cast of Donkey Kong but soon got a leading part. So far, he shown up in over 200 video games. Many of us remember the early Mario from when a Nintento was a rectangular brick and you had to blow air into the games to make them work.
The sequential artists of C’est Bon Kultur present the third Panorama exhibition in as many years. The suite interprets well-known stories that most of us know and have a relationship to. It started with the oral tradistion of the Little Red Riding Hood, went on to the modern novel with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and has now finally reached the beginnings of the digital age with Super Mario, the golden boy of Nintendo.
The participants are Sofia Falkenhem, Martin Flink, Allan Haverholm, Cin Iwarsson, Sarah Kläpp, Jamil Mani and Elisabeth Nielsen. Each artist makes their unique interpretation of Super Mario and his world. by breaking down and rebuilding, pixel by pixel.
