BLEED: Art exhibition by Tusen Serier
& Release party for CBA vol 35 by CBK
Opening: November 18, 17-22 @ Hybriden (Claesgatan 8, Malmö)
The exhibition will remain until November 28.
Join us as we dive into a red world. Tonight we’ll explore just what it means to BLEED. What does blood mean to you? Are you afraid of it? Do you worship it? Or is it just the color that attracts you?
At Hybriden you will see artists draw blood and see their visual interpretations of the theme.
It will indeed be a red experience. We will overwhelm your senses! Not just by the artwork itself, but the music will be tailored for this night. The wine will be blessed and prepared. Amongst all of this we will have a blood fountain.
The exhibition is accompanied by CBA vol 35: BLEED that includes a wide array of comics on the same theme.
Participating artist in the exhibition are:
Music by Markus Samnell (better known as Feberdröm)
This exhibition is a cooperation between Tusen Serier and CBK, with support from Malmö Kulturstöd.

So now you finally have something to look forward to! A little ray of light in the darkness of winter and dystopia.
You can find the program for the festival here.

It’s time to put on your leisure suit and get to work on whatever. Whatever you want. Whatever. Is it working? No! It’s not working at all. Maybe it’s a sci-fi utopia. Or is it a fantasy? It’s all the time in the world. Odd moments are even. Time is money and everyone’s a billionaire. Spare some time? Here: free time for everyone! High quality time! No work and all play.

CBK organized the first AltCom back in 2004 as a one-time event, then it was turned into a full-scale comics festival and run by the Swedish Comics Association in 2010, 2012 and 2014. And now it’s back with us and Tusen Serier.
There will be exhibitions, films and a comics fair. During all of the festival, we will also give out the AltCom 2016: WORK anthology for free.
The book features an assortment of international artists, many of whom have been published in CBA over the years. Cover illustration by Kinga Dukaj.
Read more about it here.
And of course we will have a table and sell our books at the comics market on July 30-31 in Folkets Park.
On another note, CBA vol 35: BLEED has its submissions deadline on August 1, so if you have an amazing comic with lots of blood lying around, don’t hesitate to send it to us (see our submission guidelines for instructions).
Main editor for this volume: Kinga Dukaj
Opening: May 14, 17-20 @ Biograf Panora (Friisgatan 19, Malmö)
The exhibition will remain until June 8.
Everyone wants to feel connected to something bigger than themselves. When it comes to millennial ennui, however, things get complicated. Living the very American dichotomy of privilege and trouble, more often than not we gravitate towards anti-heroes and villains to break us out of our daily grind. But at what point do the troublemakers of American pop culture start resembling it’s youth more than the heroes? Diary essays paired with familiar faces create a dream landscape mirroring the millennial adolescent psyche.
CBA vol 33:REPEAT OFFENDERS is Julia Scott’s solo debut about growing up weird, growing up other, and taking courage from the seemingly innocuous cartoon villains that populated the childhood of a generation.
Julia Scott is an American working artist based out of the very raucous Baltimore, Maryland. Some of her clients include Warner Bros, Archaia Entertainment, and Lion Forge Comics. She draws the comic The Telepath Generation with writers Josh Tierney and Bobby Myers, and considers herself an animated pop culture connoisseur.
The exhibition is supported by Malmö Kulturstöd.
Blue isn’t just a color. Mostly you’d associate it with depression, moodiness, full moons and break-ups. But, have you ever spent a cloudy afternoon on an old jetty by the sea, staring into the depths? Watching the intricate patterns fold and unfold into new and recurring shapes… Remember the feeling of liquid calm spreading through your scattered brain? Hypnotizing and invigorating. Like pouring fresh, wet, blue paint on a white canvas.
New beginnings can be blue.
After the opening, the exhibition will stay up until May 18. Opening hours: Mon/Wed: 16-20, Sat: 12-16

We’re finally ready to open The Hybrid, the new space we’ve been building since the beginning of the year!
The Hybrid is Malmö’s new comics hang-out! A space for exhibitions and workshops, an artists’ studio and comic shop/library, open for anyone (if not necessarily at all times). Here, you will be able to see exhibitions of comics you’ve never heard of, by recognized and unknown comic creators. Join workshops to learn how to draw comics or experiment with new forms of storytelling. In our shop you will find books from CBK, Tusen Serier, Wormgod and exquisitely selected international comics found at various festivals in different countries. We also have a comics library section where you with zines, anthologies and graphic novels where you can sit and read in our sofas.
WHERE: Hybriden @ Mitt Möllan, Claesgatan 8, Malmö
WHEN: Friday, March 11, 16-22
The comics in the international comics anthology CBA have been called “supposedly poetical”. They have also been called “witty, challenging and eye-opening”. Judge for yourself when the all-new editorial crew show their own comics and artworks.
Same goes for Tusen Serier, where the inner circle shows their own works along with samples from the upcoming titles.
Artists: Amanda Casanellas, Christina Cromnow, Henrik Rogowski, Kinga Dukaj, Luddvig Melin, Mattias Elftorp, Oskar Aspman, Stefan Petrini, Steve Nyberg, Susanne Johansson, Shko Askari, Amalia Alvarez, Tanja Komadina, Jorge Varas Varilla, and Yossra El Said.
RELEASE: CBA vol 30: A NEW HOPE
The members of the new crew have made the comics in CBA vol 30: A NEW HOPE, to signal a kind of new beginning for the series, and because we wanted to find out what we’re actually doing. Anything from angst-ridden animals to a psychosomatic virus to a postapocalyptic Malmö and fragments of lego. You have to see for yourself what all this means in the new issue…
JAM COMIC WORKSHOP
Between 16-19 you can join a jam comic workshop where we collectively create a story on the theme of WHATEVER. No pressure, we’re just drawing togehter because it’s fun! No experience required, just bring a bit of imagination!
And of course, all our books will be available, as well as a few extra titles, in the bookstore section.
We’re going until 22 or when we fall asleep/run out of wine!
+ You will also find us at the SciFi-mässan (Malmö) this weekend, March 5-6, where CBK & Tusen Serier share a table with Wormgod and the comics course of Malmö Högskola!
+ Also do not miss the ongoing (until Monday, March 7) special offer at our new webshop!

FIND ME IN THIS CITY
by Mari Ahokoivu
October 22 @ Biograf Panora (Friisgatan 19, Malmö)
Find me in this city is a story about isolation, finding your self and learning to be alone. The book mixes fiction and autobiographic elements. The end result is a fictive story of a girl who has lost her face in a strange city. While she is looking for herself, the cat is looking for the scary yet intriguing dark character who the dog is calling Nightmare. But can you trust a dog who is always lying?
Find me in this city was first published 2009 in Finnish by Asema Kustannus. It was Mari Ahokoivu’s first graphic novel, although not her first published comic book. Other publications by Mari Ahokoivu includes ”Sarjakuvantekijän opas” (BTJ kustannus 2007), Lola Olifante (Éditions Cambourakis 2014-2015) and Sanni och Jonas (Rabén & Sjörgen 2015).
Mari Ahokoivu (b.1984) is a Finnish comic artist and illustrator who draws comics for adults and for kids and has been published in Finland as well as abroad. She has studied comics in Finland, France and Sweden and now sometimes teaches comics herself. Ahokoivu enjoys watching movies and playing roller derby. At the moment she lives in northern Finland.
