Where were you born? Where are you from? When these questions are asked really what the person means often is, who are you?

In the new volume of CBA we want you to ask yourselves some questions. Who are humanity as a collective consciousness? Where do we come from? All these little specks of life in this big dark space of nothing, and for what?

The theme Origin of life means vast possibilities to explore in art and comics, from religious interpretations to philosophy to strict scientific research. Challenge our current beliefs, make something fun and interesting, or something entirely else. We’re looking forward to seeing your comics!

CBA vol 47 – Science/Fiction

Science and fiction rule our lives. The laws of physics seem set in stone while the laws of man are arbitrary mirrors of the morality of the times. Gods and spirits are creations of the mind but also the explanation when comprehension fails. What lies beyond our understanding? Is it more science or something else? What dark forces lurk outside our field of vision? What machineries of death and destruction are we yet to invent in the name of money (which used to be metal and paper but is now to a great extent nothing but speculation and expectations)? What (or who) else meet in the intersection between science fiction and real science? What came first? The egg or the hatching machine?

In CBA vol 47 – Science/Fiction, we explore the borderlands between science and fiction, in comics and text articles.

CBA vol 45 – Additional submissions: Comics and articles

CBA vol 45 – Qtopia

We are extending our deadline because we didn’t get enough material that we felt fit into what we were looking for in the theme for this volume.

We are looking for comics as well as text articles.

Comics, articles and/or exploratory texts should visualize stories from a queer perspective without negative aspects tied to characters sexuality/queerness. Other than that you are free to create what your heart desires.

In everyday life, we witness LGBTQ narratives all the time, in films or TV, in comics, from our friends. All too often, they end badly because some kinds of love still aren’t accepted by mainstream conservative society. These stories are important to tell because they happen in real life and we need to talk about them to stop it from happening anymore. But other narratives are also possible. We want our new anthology to be an island of queer stories without oppression.

As important as fighting for equal/LGBTQ rights today is, we may also find value in celebrating and exploring what could come after the fight. What we are looking for in this volume of CBA is stories that tell different tales. Queer tales about situations involving LGBTQ characters. Utopian queer tales where everything might not be perfect, but at least the horrible things that happen don’t have anything to do with the characters sexual orientation.

We welcome a wide variety of stories: heartbreaks, murders, deep space sci-fi, everyday life, abstract comics, whatever flickers your interest. All we ask is for a queer perspective that doesn’t involve negative aspects tied to the actual queerness.

I’ll see you around the corner. Yeah, cool, but where exactly is that?
Corners are physical and mental places. Whether it’s is in your room or by the street down the block, they can be mysterious and shady spots. Corners have secrets to hide and stories to tell. Streets are packed with them, but so are the insights of the mind and its verging thoughts; so are comics as a panelled narration form.
They host dust and spider webs, they might be grimy and smell like shit, but overall corners are meeting points. Literally the angle made when two ways intersect. But also where two feelings or two people collide.

CBA vol 40 – Call for submissions: Comics & Texts

CBA vol 40 – Worst Case Scenario
(Guidelines for text pieces and comics for this issue at the bottom of this description)

What’s the worst that could happen? And if that happens, what’s the worst that could happen? And if that happens, what’s the worst that could happen? And so on…

There’s a psychiatric method in cognitive behavioral therapy called “The Downward Arrow Technique” where you begin by writing down the answers to this repeated question and we thought it’d be the perfect theme for our upcoming CBA vol 40. Especially since this is an election year in Sweden. Especially since war and famine and climate change and personal disasters are on the horizon. So how bad can it get?

Editors note: The goal in the Downward Arrow Technique is to explore your core beliefs and work through them, and is often used for anxiety, phobias and other disruptive thought patterns. However, this is not the goal in CBA vol 40. We just want to know the worst.

We’re looking for texts that touch upon this subject, preferably articles, essays and exploratory texts. We’re not looking for short stories in this issue.

Think of a scenario where you imagine the absolute worst thing that could happen.
When you have that in mind, ask: if that happens, whats the worst that could happen?
When you have that answer continue asking it about 3 more times until you’ve got a clear story.
Use this as a script for your comic.
