BLEED: Exhibition & Release

bleedevent

BLEED: Art exhibition by Tusen Serier
& Release party for CBA vol 35 by CBK

Opening: November 18, 17-22 @ Hybriden (Claesgatan 8, Malmö)
The exhibition will remain until November 28.

Join us as we dive into a red world. Tonight we’ll explore just what it means to BLEED. What does blood mean to you? Are you afraid of it? Do you worship it? Or is it just the color that attracts you?

At Hybriden you will see artists draw blood and see their visual interpretations of the theme.

It will indeed be a red experience. We will overwhelm your senses! Not just by the artwork itself, but the music will be tailored for this night. The wine will be blessed and prepared. Amongst all of this we will have a blood fountain.

The exhibition is accompanied by CBA vol 35: BLEED that includes a wide array of comics on the same theme.

Participating artist in the exhibition are:
Vladica Čulić
Merima Dizdarević
Kinga Dukaj
Mattias Elftorp
Bekim Gaši
Aida Ghardagian
Susanne Johansson
Vuk Palibrk
Stefan Petrini
Gonzalo Rodriguez
Henrik Rogowski
Rakel Stammer
among others…

Music by Markus Samnell (better known as Feberdröm)

Rest of 2016…

Here’s a list of exhibitions and releases from CBK/Hybriden, festivals and other events we’ll be attending, basically everything we can think of that will happen dureing the rest of this year:

Rakel Stammer will share a table with our friend Tonina Matamalas and bring some of our books.

Oulu comics festival – Nov 4-6

The exhibition will feature bleeding cool art by the CBK crew with friends (such as Vladica Čulić, Merima Dizdarević and possibly more). If all goes as planned, there will also be a fountain of blood (draw your own conclusions), so don’t miss it!

Örebro comics festival – Nov 26-27
Mattias Elftorp & Kinga Dukaj will be there, representing CBK, Tusen Serier & Wormgod. There will also be the Void exhibition by Susanne Johansson (formerly shown at AltCom 2016).

The Mother exhibition – Dec 1-21 @ Hybriden
Rakel Stammer, Marie Tillman and an assortment of guest artists from Mexico will explore the concept of motherhood together in this Tusen Serier exhibition.Read more here.

Mitt Julmarknad – Dec 10-11 @ Mitt Möllan
Christmas market on our home turf. An opportunity to find not only all of our books but also lots of other stuff from the Hybriden shop (exclusive stuff that only exists in our physical store, not online)!

Tröls julmarknad – Dec 17 @ Lilla Tröls, Malmö
Another opportunity to buy all your Christmas presents from us! With Tusen Serier & Wormgod.

We may also be at Garaget’s bokmässa (Nov 27, but we don’t know yet if we will be there).

And we’re kind of planning a Mellandagsrea at Hybriden, with a Best of Tusen Serier exhibition, but we don’t have any confirmed dates yet.

So now you finally have something to look forward to! A little ray of light in the darkness of winter and dystopia.

Örebro comics festival

CBK, together with Tusen Serier and Wormgod, will be at the Örebro comics festival, November 26-27!

The poster is made by one of the early crew members of CBK and one of the artists of the upcoming CBA vol 35: Bleed, Susanne Johansson (currently part of Wormgod and Tusen Serier and one of the founding members of Dotterbolaget), with some layout assistance from Mattias Elftorp.

Susanne’s exhibition Void (formerly shown at AltCom 2016) will also be presented at the Örebro festival, with prints from the book of the same name.

It’s time to put on your leisure suit and get to work on whatever. Whatever you want. Whatever. Is it working? No! It’s not working at all. Maybe it’s a sci-fi utopia. Or is it a fantasy? It’s all the time in the world. Odd moments are even. Time is money and everyone’s a billionaire. Spare some time? Here: free time for everyone! High quality time! No work and all play.

Participating artists:
Alexander Robyn | Steve Nyberg | Jasmina Grudnik | Harukichi | Javier Triviño Murillo | Anna Krztoń | Petra Lilla Marjai | Aurélien Leif | Štěpánka Jislová | Mattias Elftorp

CBK organized the first AltCom back in 2004 as a one-time event, then it was turned into a full-scale comics festival and run by the Swedish Comics Association in 2010, 2012 and 2014. And now it’s back with us and Tusen Serier.

There will be exhibitions, films and a comics fair. During all of the festival, we will also give out the AltCom 2016: WORK anthology for free.

Read more about it here.

And of course we will have a table and sell our books at the comics market on July 30-31 in Folkets Park.

On another note, CBA vol 35: BLEED has its submissions deadline on August 1, so if you have an amazing comic with lots of blood lying around, don’t hesitate to send it to us (see our submission guidelines for instructions).

Repeat Offenders

Release exhibition forrepeatoffenders
CBA vol 33:
REPEAT OFFENDERS
by Julia Scott

Opening: May 14, 17-20 @ Biograf Panora (Friisgatan 19,  Malmö)
The exhibition will remain until June 8.

REPEAT OFFENDERS
Everyone wants to feel connected to something bigger than themselves. When it comes to millennial ennui, however, things get complicated. Living the very American dichotomy of privilege and trouble, more often than not we gravitate towards anti-heroes and villains to break us out of our daily grind. But at what point do the troublemakers of American pop culture start resembling it’s youth more than the heroes? Diary essays paired with familiar faces create a dream landscape mirroring the millennial adolescent psyche.

CBA vol 33:REPEAT OFFENDERS is Julia Scott’s solo debut about growing up weird, growing up other, and taking courage from the seemingly innocuous cartoon villains that populated the childhood of a generation.

juliascottsmallJulia Scott is an American working artist based out of the very raucous Baltimore, Maryland. Some of her clients include Warner Bros, Archaia Entertainment, and Lion Forge Comics.  She draws the comic The Telepath Generation with writers Josh Tierney and Bobby Myers, and considers herself an animated pop culture connoisseur.

The exhibition is supported by Malmö Kulturstöd.

SIS16!

The weekend is coming towards us like some kind of train. We will have a table at SIS16 (May 7-8 at Kulturhuset in Stockholm). As usual, we’ll be with Tusen Serier & Wormgod + Anna Ehrlemark (one of the artists of the brand new CBA vol 32).

SIS2016_Banner_400x500px

You will find us in the same place as last year (F8-F10). We also take part in the programming, with a talk about Hybriden & AltCom on Saturday at 13.
See the entire program here

We will of course bring our latest issue and an assortment of back issues that we will sell with some generous special offers (look us up to find out more)!

And speaking of festival, now there’s a Facebook event (and poster) for AltCom!

Saturday: Seriefest & Seriefestfest!

seriefestfesteventbild

Hybriden and Seriefest present Seriefestfesten!

This weekend (Sat-Sun) we will be at Seriefest at the Malmö City Library. We’ll be sharing a table with Tusen Serier and Wormgod (as usual).

Then, on Saturday evening, starting at 18, we invite you to the official Seriefestfesten (Comicspartyparty) at Hybriden, our comics store/library/exhibition space at Mitt Möllan (Claesgatan 8, Malmö). Fest!

Seriefest may be over for the day, but the night is still young. Come and hang out with us, see the ongoing comics exhibition and of course you can buy lots and lots of comics in our store if that’s the way you prefer to spend your evening. We won’t mind.

seriefestfestposter

Bring your own booze or have a taste of our exhibition wine. We’ll bring some snacks and sodas.

Naturally, you are also very welcome even if you have had nothing to do with Seriefest during the day, but we recommend a visit at the zine fest as well.
